Payroll display math only. Decimal hours are minutes ÷ 60, rounded to the selected precision. This chart does not apply time-clock rounding rules (5 / 6 / 15 minute intervals under 29 CFR §785.48) — those change the underlying minutes before decimal conversion. For a compact two-way converter without the full table, see the Minutes to Decimal Hours Converter. Nothing is saved; conversion runs in your browser. Read the full methodology.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert time card minutes to decimal hours?

Divide minutes by 60 and round to the decimal places your payroll system uses. Example: 30 minutes ÷ 60 = 0.50 hours; 15 minutes = 0.25; 45 minutes = 0.75. This page lists every minute from 0 through 60 (or 1 through 60) at both two and three decimal places, and includes a live converter for multi-hour totals like 7:30 → 7.50.

What is 7 minutes in decimal hours on a time card?

7 ÷ 60 = 0.1166… hours. Rounded to two decimal places that is 0.12; to three decimal places it is 0.117. Eight minutes is 0.13 (two places) or 0.133 (three places). These are the awkward rows people misread on paper charts—use the table rather than guessing.

Is a minutes-to-decimal chart the same as time-clock rounding?

No. The chart only changes units (minutes ↔ hours). Time-clock rounding under 29 CFR §785.48 changes which minutes count—nearest 5, 6, or 15 minutes—before pay is calculated. Convert after any rounding policy has already been applied, or use the Time Card Calculator when you need punch-level rounding and weekly totals together.

Should I use two or three decimal places?

Two decimal places (hundredths of an hour) is the common paycheck and timesheet display. Three decimal places reduces intermediate rounding error in some systems. Neither is mandated by federal wage-and-hour law as a display format—match your payroll provider’s documentation.

How is this different from the Minutes to Decimal Hours Converter?

Same conversion math. This page emphasizes a full printable 0–60 (or 1–60) reference table for wall charts and training. The Minutes to Decimal Hours Converter is a compact two-way tool with a short landmark table. Use whichever fits the task.

Can I print the chart?

Yes. Use your browser’s print function on this page. The full table is designed to be readable on paper; the live converter stays useful on screen. Nothing is saved to a server.

Does the tool save my entries?

No. Inputs live only in your browser tab. Closing the tab clears the data. For ongoing timesheets that persist, approve, and export to payroll, use a time-tracking system rather than a one-off chart.
