GPS time clock

GPS shows where each clock-in happened, not just when.

Every clock-in and clock-out from a phone or computer saves where it happened. One map shows the whole day, so you can see your employees were at the right site without driving out to check.

What a clock-in records

Every clock-in records a location you can check later.

Clock-in location
Tue 7:02 AMClocked inAccurate to 14 m
Wed 6:54 AMClocked inAccurate to 380 m
Indoors and underground give the least accurate readings

Tell an exact location from an approximate one

Each location is saved with how precise it was, so you can see which readings are worth relying on and which ones are only approximate.

Start and finish can be different places

See if a shift ended somewhere other than it started

Clock-out saves its own location, not just clock-in, so an employee who started at one site and finished at another shows both.

GPS starts saving locations from your first day

Locations start saving with the next clock-in, with nothing to configure. Approved worksites and the rules that go with them are a separate feature, there if you want it and never required.

A day on one screen

See a whole day of clock-ins on one map.

The Clock Activity Map puts every clock-in and clock-out for the period on a single map. Open a pin to see who it was, the exact time, and how exact the reading was, instead of opening timesheets one at a time.

When there is no reading

A clock-in with no location still counts as hours.

Allowed here, because no GPS approval applies

Allow, warn, or block a clock-in with no location

By default a clock-in with no location is accepted like any other. Add GPS areas to Work Sites and you decide what happens when an applicable clocking approval does not match: let it through, let it through with a warning, or refuse it.

Phone clock-ins have no location to give

An employee calling from a landline has no location to send, so the call records the number and the time instead.

Run a report that lists every clock-in with no location

A report called Verification Exceptions collects the clock-ins that arrived without a location, so you ask about a handful instead of scanning the whole pay period.

Common questions

Questions about GPS on a clock-in.

  • Location per clock-in
  • Accuracy recorded
  • Never blocks a clock-in
Does Clockspot follow employees during the day?

No. A location is read only at the moment someone clocks in or out. There is no background tracking, no route between those moments, and no current position, so the map shows where each clock-in happened rather than a trail.

How accurate is the location?

It depends on the device and where it is. Clockspot saves the accuracy the browser reported with each reading, so a clock-in recorded to within 14 metres and one recorded to within 400 look different when you review them.

What if an employee refuses to share their location?

The clock-in still goes through and the hours are still recorded, with no location saved and a note that there was none. If you want unrecognized locations warned or blocked, that is the geofencing feature, and you decide whether to turn it on.

Who can see where someone clocked in?

Administrators and managers reviewing time entries and the Clock Activity Map. Employees see the location on their own entries. It is not published anywhere else in the workspace.

Try Clockspot and see where the day actually happened.

Clock in from your phone a few times, then open the map. Every clock-in is already placed where it happened, so a week of work reads at a glance instead of one timesheet at a time.
