Job costing

See what each job cost you in employee wages.

Employees record the job when they clock in. Clockspot applies each pay rate to those hours, then shows the straight-time wages and the extra overtime pay behind every job before payroll.

Pay rates

Job costs come from the pay rates you already keep in Clockspot.

Set an employee’s rate once and it covers every job

Rates live on the Employee Pay page with the rest of each employee’s pay setup, and Clockspot prices their hours from there.

Pay a different rate on certain jobs

Give a job its own hourly rate and it replaces the employee rate for hours on that job. Leave it blank and everyone keeps their own rate.

Pay changes are dated, so past weeks keep the old rate

Enter the date a new rate starts, and Clockspot keeps the earlier rate on every hour before it. Reopening an old week gives the same number it did the first time.

A job missing a pay rate is flagged, not guessed

When an employee or a job has no rate set, Clockspot marks the row for review and leaves the cost blank rather than showing a number you cannot rely on.

Overtime across several jobs

Overtime pay lands on the jobs that earned it.

When an employee goes into overtime in a week spent on several jobs, Clockspot divides the extra pay across those jobs in proportion to what each one already paid them, so one job does not absorb a premium the others created. You read the report a whole workweek at a time, which is what makes that division exact.

Common questions

What to know before you rely on job costs.

  • Cost by job or by employee
  • Straight time and overtime split out
  • Export to CSV, Excel, or PDF
What does Clockspot include in labor cost?

Labor Cost by Job shows the wages your recorded time supports: straight-time pay plus the overtime pay allocated to each job. It does not add payroll taxes, benefits, workers’ compensation, materials, equipment, expenses, or any other overhead, and Clockspot does not run payroll.

Where do the hours on each job come from?

Employees pick a job when they clock in, from their own account, a shared tablet, or by entering a job code on the phone clock. You can require a job so no hour arrives without one, and any hour that still does gets its own row in the report rather than disappearing from the totals.

See how job selection works
Can a job carry hours without adding any cost?

Yes. Turn off Paid job and hours on it are still recorded and still appear in the report as unpaid time, but they add no wages and do not count toward overtime. Unpaid training or travel stays visible without inflating a customer assignment’s labor cost.

Does Clockspot replace a job costing or accounting system?

No. Clockspot covers employee time and what that time cost in wages. It does not handle materials, estimates, budgets, customer billing, revenue, profitability, or an accounting ledger.
