Founding story

Clockspot started with one customer and two locations.

Founder, Clockspot

Clockspot started in 2007 with one customer: my parents. Their pediatric clinic had two locations, and they needed to track employees at both. They were shopping for physical time clocks, and it occurred to me that I could build an online version. I had been writing software since high school and was finishing a computer science degree, so I offered to build it for them. Within a few weeks, both locations were using my prototype.

We officially launched the website a few months later, and shortly after, a law firm and a cleaning company signed up as paying customers. These early customers helped shape much of what Clockspot does today: accurate timesheets, GPS tracking, phone clock-in, job costing, and reports that make payroll prep faster. We got plenty wrong along the way, and the first version did not even handle multiple time zones. Nearly twenty years later, both companies are still our customers.

We are still building. Technology changes, customer needs change, and the product changes with them. But our job has always been the same: make Clockspot reliable by design, keep it delightful to use, and do our best work.

How we build Clockspot.

  1. Make something customers want.

Start with a problem a customer actually has, then let everyday use shape what we build next.

  2. Make it reliable by design.

Build safeguards into every layer of Clockspot, so errors are caught before they reach a timesheet.

  3. Make it delightful to use.

Even timesheets deserve to be beautiful. We put care into every detail.

  4. Do our best work.

Only we know when it is our best work. It takes love, care, and judgment.
