Getting started
Connecting Clockspot to assistants
Connect a Clockspot account from a supported assistant, review permissions, and understand how this differs from API keys.
Start from the assistant
Begin the connection from the assistant client, such as ChatGPT or Claude. Clockspot needs that authorization request before it can verify which account and permissions are being requested.
If Clockspot says to start the connection from your assistant, go back to that assistant and restart the connect flow there.
Choose the Clockspot account
If you belong to more than one Clockspot account, choose the account you want the assistant to use. The connection applies to the selected account.
If the wrong account is selected, cancel and restart the connection from the assistant.
Review permissions
The permission screen shows what the assistant is asking Clockspot to allow. Depending on the request, permissions may include:
- Account — company, employees, jobs, locations, and clock-in setup.
- Employees — roles, statuses, hire dates, invitations, jobs, and assignments.
- Time tracking — time entries, timesheet approvals, and edit requests.
- Time off — requests, entries, balances, types, and accrual rules.
- Pay rates — pay history, payroll reports, employee rates, or job rates.
- Rules — overtime rules, schedules, workweek start day, and rounding.
- Reports — available reports, results, filters, and downloads.
Only grant the connection if the account and permissions look right. If the screen says the connection is read-only, it cannot edit Clockspot.
After connecting
Return to the assistant and ask questions about Clockspot using the connected account. Revoke access from that assistant when you no longer want the connection active.
You do not need an API key for this connection. API Keys are for other tools that ask you to paste a Clockspot key manually.
Common questions
- Do I need an API key?
No. Start from the assistant and use the connection screen. API keys are for other tools that ask you to paste a Clockspot key manually.
- Can an assistant edit Clockspot?
Only if the connection asks for and receives edit permissions. If the screen says the connection is read-only, it cannot edit Clockspot.
- Where do I revoke access?
Revoke the Clockspot connection from the assistant when you no longer want it to use that account.
